Bressay Development

Bressay Development Ltd (BDL) run the facilities in the school, provide up to date local information in newsletters, Facebook and this website. We are a not for profit group managed by volunteer directors with the help of volunteers from the community. Volunteers currently enable us to run the Good As New Shop, organise events and maintain the school building and they also take part in the sub groups which manage different aspects of our work. We always welcome more help so please get in touch if you would like to get involved.

Bressay Community Council

Bressay Community Council members meet monthly. Community Councils play an important role in providing community representation to official bodies, assisting in planning, service delivery and policy decision making. The Community Council can also offer grant funding to local groups.

Bressay Under 5s

The friendly babies and bairns group meets every Friday morning from 10.30 - 12.30 in the former Bressay school nursery. All peerie folk are welcome along with their parents or grandparents and it’s not restricted to Bressay bairns, we have a few regulars from mainland Shetland.

Relaxed surroundings, access to an outside play area.

£2 per family per morning. Tea, juice & snacks provided.

Speldiburn Cafe is open too.

Bressay Hall Committee

The Hall Committee, all volunteers, oversee the running of the Hall which is regularly used by the community for Sunday Teas, badminton, parties, etc. The committee organise volunteer bar, catering and cleaning staff for events and also hold their own fundraising and community events. Hall bookings can be made at the Mail Shop or on facebook.

Bressay UHA Committee

Bressay UHA Committee organises Bressay Up Helly Aa, a weekend long event held on the last Friday every Feburary.

Bressay Boating Club

The Bressay Boating Club maintains and manages the Bressay Marina and Caravan park which includes a slipway and a visitors' berth. Berths may be avaliable to rent, please contact the Chairman Theo Smith for futher details - 01595 820214. Electric hook up points are available for caravans and motorhomes.

Bressay Sports Club

Bressay Sports Club maintain and manage the Bressay Sports Pitch, hold regular fundraising events and the pitch is used regularly as a venue for local football matches.

Bressay History Group

The History Group run the Heritage Centre, providing exhibitions and visitor information throughout the summer months. The group however meets year-round and its members' diverse interests range from recent family history to Neolithic archaeology. The group collects and catalogues photos, documents and artefacts and the centre houses a large collection of items with Bressay connections. Members have recently explored and repaired an underground passage on Noss and we are currently researching Bressay boats to enable us to provide an exhibition for Shetland Boat Week. We are also using cutting edge 3D technology to capture old buildings in their current condition.
